2019 Tour of Kaimuki Public Library

Hello, my name is Miss Megan and I’m the children’s librarian at Kaimuki Public Library. A lot of people think libraries are old dusty places with no fun. But libraries are totally different now. We have tons of fun activities going on all the time we’ve had swordsmanship Demonstrations we’ve even had bagpipes perform at the library and you better believe it got really loud But don’t worry if you like a quiet library, we have our loud events for just special occasions. I Also want to mention if you didn’t know me and lend ‘ukulele for free! But one of the main reasons I want to show you this video before you come to the library so you know what to expect down here is the Parking lot which I just showed you up there the stairs and here’s the ramp that you can go up if you don’t like Going up the stairs. Maybe you just especially love ramps You’ll come up this way from the parking lot if you are coming in a car with your grandma grandpa auntie uncle Mom dad older brother or sister, but if you’re coming from Town if you’re walking here from school or come from this direction And up the hill Kaimuki is known for its hills so it’s not a surprise that our library is at the top of the hill So it might be a bit of a climb especially if it’s hot out so you want to make sure to stay hydrated the only thing is Please do not drink or eat inside the library. We need to keep it nice and clean for everybody This is the front entrance which you can come up quite easily The steps are right here and off to the side is another ramp if you prefer the ramp there’s the sliding glass doors and Fresh air conditioning for you to cool off in. This is the front lobby area We decorate the front entrance area a lot. Right now, it’s themed “space,” but it’ll probably change Soon, so don’t get too used to it We have our crossword puzzle. Then we have our bulletin board where we share all of the upcoming events And as you can see, it’s packed This is the young adult area which is meant for sixth graders to 12th graders We’ve lots of seating and areas for all their books and all the exciting things they do over here is our seating area for kids, our computers to look up books and Here is our reference desk where you can ask questions to a librarian Here is the leafy rug where we have storytime, book talks and other class visits That’s the new bookshelf and over here as I’m sure you’ll be excited to hear are the graphic novels Comic books, graphic novels things like Dog Man and Garfield are gonna be over here on top are all of our events and Here you see some things on display. I Should mention that “on display” is a fancy way of saying we put it in an area. You’re really gonna notice And we hope that you like those books and that you’ll want to borrow them so anything you see on top of the shelf or in a special case you can take and borrow and Bring home read and bring back this is our keiki corner where you’ll see our giant bear and tons of toys for you to play with and You can lounge on the bear, do homework on the bear, read on the bear! We just ask that you’re gentle with him because he’s a little bit sensitive over here is our nonfiction and our fiction sections, which we’ll talk about a lot once you get in here in person and over here you see a Mural way up there. It’s very big and We’re back to our class visit rug Thank you so much for listening and I’ll see you very very soon Goodbye. See you soon
