Ep. 81 “The No. 1 Source” | Library Stories

As a parent I was looking for something
nearby to expose my daughter to. Something that was rich in resources and
provided a different opportunities for her to be engaged, and the Library was the
No. 1 source for us. My daughter Anya is two and a half years
old, and she loves to get her hands into everything. She enjoys reading as well, so being surrounded by books and being outside of the home environment
it’s a great opportunity for us to get into the neighborhood and for her to
explore and engage with kids her age and older. It started with story time, and story time is just a great hour of singing and
reading and for some kids dancing, and it was good to have her in that kind of
enjoyable and very free environment. She participated in the monthly workshops and some of these special occasions that they have here when they would bring
musicians to play and sing along. Early literacy is especially important,
especially for someone who is Anya’s age. Her brain is growing, and she’s also
absorbing so many different things at this age. She gets to pick up French
books, she gets to pick up books that are Spanish and English and really just get
her hands into everything. We don’t have to put this in our budget for the month or the week. We really know that there’s a support system out there for families
in the neighborhood, and there’s no better way to start then coming to the
library.
