International Women’s Day | Brighton Women’s Centre

although women are 51% of the population
globally they just don’t have equality and International Women’s Day is an
extra opportunity to point that out to the world Lewes FC became the first
football club in the world to assign equal playing budgets to its men’s and women’s teams I think it’s great to have a space to kind of let people story-tell and use their background and their power to help other people I just want you all to stand up for a second Turn to one person and say something really beautiful and complimentary It’s not about finding your voice
is about being encouraged to use it and encouraging other people to listen
we don’t need to find our voices we know what they are and that’s what I think
today is about I am a huge advocate for diversity in publishing Coming out stories are incredibly important it’s obviously a day of celebration as well and I think it’s
really important to celebrate those that are helping a variety of different
causes and initiatives I’ve just enjoyed a fantastic
workshop you need to recognize all the
contributions of the women who came before us all the struggles and
everything that brought us to this moment
it’s also quite nice to hear that younger people are also continuing our
search for equality feminism means a world where everybody has equal
opportunities it’s a world where there’s no gender discrimination feminism means
equal rights for all genders with whatever people identify with so
religion to be is being clear being kind of unique and being who you are like a
power but like it brings us closer together and makes us let’s push the
world that’s the world it’s not just a winner but it’s so that the world can
actually be equal a lot of works been done to try and achieve this but it’s
still work to be done so I’m here supporting
fact that everybody deserves the same when it comes I don’t think it should be just one day
it should be every page rather than just given us one day you here International
Women’s Day at the DOE raises funds like the one in the center and they do quite
phenomenal work for the vulnerable than homeless they are extraordinary the fact
that almost all of Brighton comes to these things just shows how brilliantly
they organize that water would cause it is and I just think that phenomenal
sisters are doing it for themselves standing on our own two feet bring it on
down I said sister are doing it for
themselves
