Kopernio for Libraries

Kopernio for Libraries

Researchers look for scholarly
literature wherever they can find it, which means they may be bypassing your
library’s discovery tools and subscriptions. Chasing full text links
across the web, researchers often download non version-of-record PDFs that
aren’t ideal rather than licensed library content.
Kopernio is a free browser extension which travels with the researcher to
provide one-click access to journal papers. Kopernio intelligently
integrates with your library holdings, checking subscription content first, then
open access content, to provide researchers with the best available
full-text wherever they are. Researchers and students install the
Kopernio extension locally into their browser. To get started they select their
institution. Kopernio will automatically activate when your users begin their
search from any of the 20,000 scholarly sites that Kopernio supports. It works
in real time to find full text PDFs available to the user,
simultaneously searching journal sites, repositories or digital libraries like
JSTOR. When the user is ready to access the full-text, Kopernio is ready to
deliver it. When the user clicks to access the full-text
Kopernio works through an order of precedence to provide the best of the
versions it has identified. Kopernio always prioritizes content from licensed
sources first, authenticating to the resources you’ve invested in before
falling back on alternative open versions. This preference for
subscription content also means that Kopernio is contributing to the counter
statistics that you’re already tracking, helping you monitor your subscription
usage and ROI. Any content that is found is stored in the individual user’s
Kopernio locker so that it can be downloaded and organized for easy access
later. Kopernio works off-campus as well. You
control access through Kopernio with your existing proxy or Shibboleth or SSO
authentication. Visit our site for information on how to contact us to set
up your library. The first time a researcher attempts to access a
publication from outside your IP range they will be prompted to connect with
your library through your existing proxy or Shibboleth authentication. This is
only required once, then their user credentials are safely encrypted and
stored only within their browser and never on Kopernio servers. Then they can
continue enjoying access to your subscription content from anywhere.
Kopernio works like other browser password managers which store your
credentials locally and only use them to serve your subscription content. They are
never stored on Kopernio servers, never used for any other purpose and never
shared. You can read more about our data principles here.
And of course Kopernio works seamlessly into your web of science workflow, giving
your users the best possible full-text experience. Learn more and install Kopernio today.
