Library Lowdown: Ordering a book to the Reading Room

There are around 6 million books stored in
areas of the UL that are closed to readers. You can request these items through the catalogue
and they will be fetched for you in around half an hour.
The Librarysearch catalogue can be accessed online from anywhere. You can search for the
book you need using title and author information. Find online tips on searching the catalogue
effectively in the ‘Library Help’ section of the Libraries Gateway.
Once you have found the book you need, select ‘Check request options’ and follow the
instructions onscreen. A member of the Reader Services staff will now fetch the book for
you. You can collect your book from the Reading Room or West Room on the day you order it,
or on the following day. If you need any help ordering a book that
isn’t on the open shelves, ask at the Reading Room desk.
