Monticello Library Animated Flythrough

Monticello Library Animated Flythrough

The long-awaited Monticello Library, to be
located in Western Shawnee, is at last underway. In the planning process since 2000, the Library
has sought out input and we’ve been analyzing service needs for this community. Three wants are repeated by many citizens:
a large and lively kids area; a variety of sizes and types of public meeting rooms for
community use; and up-to-date technology, allowing students to learn and adults to thrive. Monticello is on the Shawnee Mission Parkway,
east of K-7 near a variety of businesses and in walking distance from several cozy neighborhoods. Sculpture by Beth Nybeck can be enjoyed from
many angles. The Story Path helps little kids learn about
letters and the sounds with their families. There’s a drop-off at the curb and about a
hundred parking places. Handicap parking is as close to the door as
possible! If you’re in a hurry, you can pick up your
holds and self-check right inside the door. New for Monticello, a dedicated kids activity
room hosts storytimes and our successful 6 by 6 early literacy programs. You’ll find meeting spaces on this side, easy
to reserve online. New books are here, and plenty of seating
to enjoy them. When you bring your own device, have a seat
at the charging counter and use our excellent wi-fi. Our 100-seat meeting room is equipped for
your school, church, or group meeting, free of charge, with easy to use AV equipment. Our bright, clean rest rooms and elevator
make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. Staff work areas are built for efficiency
with new library technology and shared workstations. Experience our new drive-up service window! Upstairs, the popular teen area is adjacent
to new collaborative tech spaces. Raised floors throughout the library make
it easy to reconfigure to meet our changing community’s needs. 2.5 million visitors check out 7 million items
per year, like the non-fiction collection seen here. Library users also check out about 500,000
e-Books. You’ll find larger study rooms upstairs, and
the round meeting room that overlooks the terrace and the environmentally-conscious
green roof. Visit us at the new Monticello Library, opening
in 2018.
