University of Memphis Law Library – Introduction to staff and services

Welcome to the Law School and the Law Library. I am D.R. Jones, Associate Dean, Law Library
Director and Associate Professor of Law. The Law Library staff and I would like to
tell you about the Law Library. The Law Library is open 7 days a week, 24
hours a day, 365 days a year for your use. All you need is your student ID to get into
the building when the Library and Law School building are not open. They are not open during the evenings, weekends
and on holidays. You have access to the full facilities in
the Library, including all study rooms and computer labs, even though the Law School
building is closed. The Law Library is located on all five floors
of the Law School building on the South side of the Law School. The computer labs in the Library provide printers
and hardwired computers. One of those labs is on Level Two. The other is on Level Four. There is full wireless access throughout the
Law School building. The library has many different kinds of study
areas available for your use. On the first and fourth floor we have open
study tables, some boasting beautiful views of the Mississippi river. In addition to these open tables, we have
private study carrels and rooms for group study. You do not need to reserve any of these spaces
as they are open for your use at all times. In addition to study areas, we also have books
to assist you in studying for your first year classes. Our Academic Success Collection, located on
the first floor of the library, contains study guides for every class you will be taking
as a 1L. If you would like to find out more information
about our Academic Success collection, please visit our 1L Survival Guide. You can access this guide by going to the
librarys website and clicking 1L Survival Guide on the left side of your screen. The law library also provides a weekly technology
teaching service, where we focus on apps or software that can be useful for law students. The fall semester is primarily aimed at 1Ls
and focuses on technologies that can make your studying more effective or easier. We also look at time management, briefing
cases and other ways to make your first semester go more smoothly. For more information about the library’s study
space or available technology, please see the Services page, accessible from the left
side of the library page. There you will find information about printing
and computer labs, study space and where to find it, and information that may help you
with writing. If you need assistance with research or would
like to know more about library services or facilities you can consult the law librarians
and the library staff. They are available Monday through Friday at
the Circulation and Reference desk on Level One of the Library. You can also consult our website which is
accessible through the law school website. Just click on Library. The Law Library will be an important part
of your Law School education. We look forward to serving you!
